The NCCER Core, Introduction to Basic Construction Skills is a foundational course designed to introduce individuals to essential construction skills and safety practices. It serves as a prerequisite for all NCCER craft training programs and is ideal for professionals looking to build a strong foundation in construction.

Course Overview:

This course covers 80 hours of fundamental construction knowledge and skills, including:

  • Basic Safety – OSHA regulations, hazard recognition, and personal protective equipment (PPE).

  • Construction Math – Essential calculations used in construction, such as measurements and conversions.

  • Hand & Power Tools – Proper use, maintenance, and safety procedures.

  • Blueprint Reading – Understanding construction drawings and specifications.

  • Basic Rigging – Introduction to safe lifting and hoisting techniques.

  • Communication & Employability Skills – Workplace communication, teamwork, and career readiness.

  • Material Handling – Safe lifting techniques and handling of construction materials.

This course provides a portable, industry-recognized certification and is required for those pursuing further NCCER craft training. It is suitable for entry-level professionals, apprentices, and those looking to upskill in construction. All course materials are provided.

Classes will meet Monday through Thursday, with a morning or afternoon session.
